How many styles of boots can you think of? How many of those rise above the knee? Why do we like them so much? 

Thousands of styles that’s the answer to the first question and hundreds to the next question but, the third question, well that’s a little more detailed. They have been associated with ladies of the night and dominatrix type images for a long time but now they are all over the high street. Web sites such as xtremefootwear.co.uk are selling all shapes and sizes for woman to just go to work in or go clubbing etc. you can even get flat boots that reach all the way up to the top of your leg. Thigh boots have even been featured on morning television as a fashion item for the high street.

Does this mean that the days of feeling powerful are gone? Not on your life. I’ve spent some time talking to both men and woman about thigh boots and I was not shocked to hear that men find them a turn on and woman have a sense of power while wearing them. 

The dominatrix image must play a part here. Woman are powerful with or without the boots but, if the boots are being worn for reasons other than going to work i.e. the bedroom, then it would seem that the boots are a big part of an entire outfit. There is a sense of feeling sexy and desirable brought in with the boots but I think that the sense of power comes from those primary feelings of looking good enough to eat. When we think about how men think we assume that all they see is a fantastic night of raunchy passion in store for them. Perhaps men think woman will do really naughty things in the bedroom that they wouldn’t normally do. There is no doubt that this kind of footwear has a strong link to sex. 

To be honest, trying to understand the truth behind the fascination with thigh boots would take a life time to conclude and even then, I’m not sure the answer would be agreed by everyone. I found that the age and sex of people asked made a difference on the truth behind them. For example, a man in his late 60’s agreed that yes, they are a turn on but when you have had a life of bringing up children and being the bread winner oh and of course, going down the stairs first when you hear a bump in the night, seeing your woman in these things strutting her stuff is an opportunity to hang up your macho status and hand over to the woman in your life, lie back and take time out from being in charge. So are they sexy because the men get a rest and being more mature than younger men, they see strength in their partner and this in itself is a turn? 

Younger men (boy’s) tend to edge more towards the get ya rocks off side of things. I still believe though that if you get them thinking a little more deeply, they too can see how power plays its part, they just don’t want to admit it. 

The more mature woman seems to feel powerful and sexy and the younger female seems to feel, well, powerful and sexy. So, dose this show that men have to be big and hard a take charge all the time but enjoy a break from this and woman feel that their power in the world is kept down a little bit by men and so get a kick out of taking control and calling the shots. 

This could go on forever trying to work out the psychology behind men and woman and power and sex but it is a definite that many items of clothing scream sexy and strength and personality so if the boots are out there, buy them and wear them with pride. Whatever your reason, just have fun and make the most of them because fashion comes and goes so fast that you have to get in on the act ASAP to make the most of it. 

These are just a few examples of the boots that are on the market now. I even saw some trainers the other day that have buckle and straps that have found their way half way up the leg. Bizzar!
