Different Types of Doors, Benefits, Finishes and Colours
When you look around you will see many types of doors. They come in all shapes and sizes and are often purpose made.
Let’s go back in time. Imagine cowboys and Indians. The cowboy’s saloon for example, what doors do you see now. You might be seeing the little swing saloon doors that are only several inches in height. They hang midway so that when the cowboy enters the bar, you see his hat and his lower body but not his chest. Ok, not what you might call a door but this was a common door of its time.
The doors that were on the homes of cowboys were also quite flimsy compared to the front doors of today. Mostly made from wood with metal hinges and locks, In fact, when you really think about it, doors have been around for the longest time. Even cave men may have protected the entrance to a cave with large rocks.
In modern times you can get doors for all sorts of things. Acoustic doors for sound proofing, x-ray doors for the prevention of radiation escaping, and interior and exterior doors for the home of office.
Doors have patterns on them, some are carved or molded into shapes and patterns where as others will have colours and designs on them. Even a prison cell has a door of some description be it a set or bars or a full metal reinforced door.
Fire doors are the most likely to be seen around public places such as residential homes or in the office.
The main role of a door depends on the type of door. Ie, a prison door is to prevent the prisoners from getting out, acoustic doors are to prevent sound from getting out and an x-ray door stops radiation from getting out so in these three cases the benefit of the door is prevention.
Now take your front door and a safe door, you might consider this prevention against someone getting in. but on the other hand a front door also offers keeping the cold out and the warmth in as does a fridge door. And oven door keeps heat in and cold out and offers some protection against burning yourself.
Doors are everywhere and they have many benefits. The size, shape and colour may differ but they all have one basic design, to fill a hole and prevent something form going in or coming out.
